Description from the seller
IN AUCTION
- Equipped with Federperiti Conformity Guarantee Appraisal
- First-series version from 1974
- Original engine
- Original color Code 165 Dark Coral Red
- Black license plates and historic logbook with pages
- Technical inspection just passed with no defects found
HISTORY / OVERVIEW
The Fiat 126 was unveiled on November 1, 1972 at the Turin Auto Show with the task of carrying on the heritage of the famous Fiat 500, from which it adopted the mechanical layout while introducing important technical updates.
Among the main innovations were a fully synchronized gearbox, a bodywork slightly larger in dimensions that improved interior livability, more brilliant performance and a higher level of safety compared to the previous model.
The example offered at auction belongs to the sought-after first series and retains the original engine as well as the correct factory color, Dark Coral Red, code 165, as reported by the identification plaque and confirmed by the multi-page historic logbook.
EXTERIOR
The bodywork is generally solid and well preserved. The paintwork, restored a few years ago in the correct original color Dark Coral Red Code 165, still retains a nice shine and enhances the car’s appearance. Recently a professional polishing and detailing treatment has been performed. Visible defects include a area around the windshield and the front hood (see photos).
Ultrasonic/side checks did not reveal any signs of accidents or significant structural repairs.
The underbody has never undergone a full restoration and appears generally solid and well preserved, in good standing with technical inspection and road use.
INTERIOR
The original interiors show minimal signs of use consistent with the car’s age, but are complete, authentic and fully usable. The door panels and rear seats are well preserved, while the dashboard retains all original instruments of the era. Recently the cabin underwent a professional sanitization treatment.
MECHANICS
The car retains its original engine, with code and serial number matching the circulation documents. The engine runs and starts regularly; the gearbox, brakes and transmission operate correctly. The periodic inspection has recently been passed and is valid until July 2028, allowing regular road use. As with any historic car used occasionally, before long trips it is advisable to perform a general check.
A first-series Fiat 126 particularly interesting for model enthusiasts, complete with its original engine, correct factory color, sought-after black plates and multi-page historic logbook, elements that increase its historical and collectible value.

Vehicle registration
Buyers are responsible for vehicle's registration, not the seller or Catawiki.
Request help with registration from a third-party service provider.Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
