Scogliera nella mareggiata is a 1960s Italian oil painting on cardboard by Giuseppe Meneghini, measuring 58 x 77.5 cm, original edition, hand-signed, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
An Italian marine landscape of extraordinary power and visual impact, dating from the mid-20th century, by the post-Impressionist painter Giuseppe Meneghini, whose works are highly sought after by collectors. This magnificent oil painting depicts a rugged, imposing cliff facing dramatically onto a turbulent sea, beneath a vast, dynamic sky streaked by clouds in rapid movement. Meneghini's true artistic strength shines through his vigorous, dense, and texturally rich brushwork. The dynamic layers of color magnificently contrast the crude, dark stability of the coastal rocks with the fluid, mutable emerald and turquoise tones of the breaking waves. Perfectly framed, this imposing canvas represents a work of great impact for collectors of modern Italian landscapes and for lovers of high-quality nautical or modern interior design. Technical assessment and details: Quality and artistic style: Excellent neorealist rendering of coastal lighting conditions. The thick application of paint with rich impasto details gives the surface a tactile, almost three-dimensional energy that recalls postwar Italian modernism and the expressionist sea masters of the Italian twentieth century, such as Giuseppe Caselli. Materials and support: Oil on cardboard, superbly preserved with excellent elasticity and saturation of the original color. Framing and presentation: Displayed within a high-quality custom wooden frame with a natural-toned elegant and minimalist profile that effortlessly highlights the painting’s spectrum of marine colors. Authenticity: boldly and cleanly signed “G. Meneghini” by the artist in the lower left quadrant. Condition: Excellent; the canvas is well-tensioned on the original stretcher, the paint layer is intact, compact, and free of restorations or flaking; the frame is solid and in excellent structural condition. Era: Second half of the 20th century (approximately 1960s/1970s). Color: Turquoise, emerald, cloud-gray, dark earth tones, and ochre for the rocks. Signature: Present (autograph, lower left). Dimensions of the painting: 50 x 70 cm. The lot will be suitably packed and shipped with authorized couriers and online tracking. For this lot, shipping outside the European Community is not available.
