Russian icon of the Teaching Christ with a repoussé silver oklad – Russia, 18th century, partially restored.
Large Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Teaching Christ standing, blessing with His right hand and holding an open faience Gospel bearing the Slavic inscription: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
The composition is enriched by two relief angels and a scene of faithful on the lower right.
The icon is covered with a repoussé and chased silver oklad with rich floral decoration. Three maker’s marks “Т.В.” (T.V.) are present on the oklad.
The original painting shows a beautiful patina with a network of craquelure in keeping with its age.
Dimensions: 33 × 28.5 cm.
Overall good condition, with wear and patina consistent with age.
