A Chinese Monochrome Egg-Yolk Yellow Dragon Bowl with Apocryphal Guangxu Mark
A finely potted Chinese porcelain bowl of imperial-inspired form, featuring elegantly flared sides and covered in a rich monochrome egg-yolk yellow (danhuang) glaze. The exterior is delicately incised with two five-clawed dragons pursuing the flaming pearl amidst scrolling clouds, a traditional imperial motif symbolizing power, wisdom, and prosperity. The inside has a carved phoenix.
The recessed white-glazed base bears an apocryphal six-character underglaze blue Guangxu reign mark reading 大清光緒年製 (Da Qing Guangxu Nian Zhi), "Made during the Guangxu reign of the Great Qing." Such reign marks were frequently employed on later decorative porcelains as an homage to the celebrated imperial wares of the Qing dynasty.
The combination of the vibrant yellow glaze and the subtly carved dragon decoration reflects a design inspired by classic imperial ceramics, making this an attractive display piece.
