The Canon FL 50mm f/1.4 II is a manual-focus standard prime introduced in 1968 for Canons FL-mount SLR system, replacing the original 1965 f/1.4 with a newly computed seven-element, six-group optical design. It uses the FL breech-lock mount and stop-down metering, and Canon regarded its high contrast, strong resolution and good corner illumination as a benchmark for the FD lenses that followed. As a fast, well-built standard lens of the late 1960s it gives full-frame coverage, and with an inexpensive FL-to-mirrorless adapter it mounts readily on modern mirrorless cameras, where it is popular for manual-focus use and its classic rendering.
