Description from the seller
Rustic coffee table with equestrian and country-inspired taste, in teak wood and iron, mid-20th century, India
Fascinating rustic table of Indian provenance, datable roughly to the mid-1950s/1960s, made of teak wood with structural and decorative iron elements. The piece presents a solid, compact form, with a thick square top, prominently turned legs and a sturdy perimeter band embellished with large studs, exposed nails, and arrow-shaped iron braces, details that give the overall a bold, “saddle” character. The curved metal crosspieces, fixed between the frame and the legs, serve not only a decorative purpose but also contribute to stability and reinforce the image of furniture conceived for daily use—robust and tactile. The surface retains a beautiful dark patina, lived-in and authentic, with abrasions, signs of use, small irregularities, wood wear and iron oxidation that enhance its original charm without compromising its aesthetic legibility. It is an ideal table for a country, rustic, colonial setting, perfect beside leather armchairs, tribal carpets, saddlery objects, antique wooden furnishings and rural decor. The combination of teak, wrought iron, studs and robust shapes makes this piece particularly decorative and suitable for interiors with a warm, authentic and refined taste, where the imperfection of the material becomes part of its charm.
