Georg Baselitz, Museum Jorn Silkeborg, handsigniert, an offset print in a limited edition from 2016, sold with a custom white wooden frame and measuring about 103 x 73 cm.
Description from the seller
Original exhibition posters by Georg Baselitz from his major retrospective “Eksperiment og fornyelse” at the Jorn Museum in Silkeborg (Denmark), 2016.
The work was personally signed in black felt-tip pen by Georg Baselitz below, giving it a special collector’s value.
Shown is one of Baselitz’s characteristic motifs – presented upside down. Since 1969, reversing his motifs has been one of the distinctive features of his artistic oeuvre. By turning the figures upside down, Baselitz directs the viewer’s gaze away from the actual subject to painting, composition, color, and gestural expressiveness. The powerful, almost sculptural figure and the dynamic brushwork are typical of his expressive style.
The work is professionally framed and presented in a custom, handmade white wooden frame with Plexiglas Optical HC, which is scratch-resistant and UV-protective.
Frame size approx. 103 x 73 cm
Georg Baselitz (1938–2025) is one of the most important German artists of the postwar period. He gained international fame with his monumental paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints. Since 1969, he deliberately presents his motifs upside down, drawing the viewer’s attention away from the subject toward composition, color, gesture, and painterly expression. This characteristic stylistic device has made him one of the defining figures of contemporary art.
His works are part of the collections of major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.
