Description from the seller
An exceptionally rare, authentic and magnificently preserved bridal chest or wedding strongbox from the late Baroque era is for sale. The piece is precisely dated to the year 1773 on the central front panel below the original wrought-iron key plate. The chest impresses with its original, well-preserved rural polychrome painting (folk art). The front and side panels are decorated with classic, elegant tulip motifs in deep red, green, and yellow tones on a dark green ground. The flat lid also shows the original field layout.
Original lock & key: The monumental, hand-forged inner case lock is fully functional. The original forged key is present and closes perfectly.
Interior: Inside there is the original wooden side drawer (side compartment) for storing small parts.
Hardware: The side heavy carrying handles made of wrought iron and the long lid bands (hinges) are original from around 1773.
Substance: In keeping with its age of over 250 years, there is a charming patina. At the baseboards/feet, earlier stabilizing wooden additions were made (see detail photos), which guarantee absolutely solid stability.
A museum-worthy masterpiece of Alpine/Southern German folk art, ready to serve immediately as a decorative focal point in a high-end interior.
Due to its size, the chest will not be shipped. If you still want shipping, I can prepare the chest well-packaged for shipment, but the transport or pickup must be organized by the buyer.
