Description from the seller
Pakistani Buchara 190 × 272 cm – handwoven wool rug
For sale a beautiful Pakistani Buchara measuring 190 × 272 cm, made from high-quality wool. The rug is kept in an elegant, muted colorway: the cream field contrasts with the blue-navy border and subtle accents in shades of dusty rose and graphite.
The rug presents itself as very noble and perfectly suits both classic and modern interiors.
Condition: good. Some areas with shorter pile on a beige background.
The central part of the rug is decorated with a pattern of ten distinctive medallions, known as gul. This is the most recognizable motif of Buchara rugs, stemming from the traditions of Turkmen tribes in Central Asia.
Gule once served as a kind of “tribal crest” and helped identify the owner’s origin. In nomadic culture they symbolize:
prosperity and good fortune,
protection of the home and family,
continuity of lineage and family ties,
harmony between man and nature.
A regular arrangement of medallions emphasizes order, balance and stability, which is why the Buchara pattern has long been regarded as a symbol of a peaceful, prosperous life.
The richly adorned border surrounding the field creates a symbolic protective boundary. In traditional weaving art, it was meant to guard the household from negative external influences.
