Orfina Porsche Design is a brand born from the meeting of two worlds of excellence: Swiss watchmaking and prestigious automotive design. In 1972, designer Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, grandson of the founder of the famous car brand, founded the Porsche Design studio with the aim of applying the principles of functional engineering to areas beyond the automobile. Watchmaking quickly became a privileged arena, with the collaboration of the Swiss manufacturer Orfina.

The fruit of this alliance gave birth to one of the most revolutionary models of the era: the Chronograph 1. Launched in 1972, this automatic chronograph was the first to adopt a full black PVD coating on steel, an innovation that stood out from traditional watchmaking standards. Inspired by Porsche dashboards, its matte black dial, with optimal legibility, paired with the famous Valjoux 7750 movement, appeals to technical enthusiasts as well as professionals. This timepiece was quickly adopted by racing drivers, aviators, and armed forces, notably the German Luftwaffe, due to its robustness, precision and visual discreteness.

The Chronograph 1 became a true pop-culture icon thanks to its appearance on Tom Cruise’s wrist in Top Gun, where he embodies Pete Mitchell, aka Maverick, but also in Days of Thunder, reinforcing the technical and masculine aura of the watch. A symbol of avant-garde design and utilitarian watchmaking, this model remains today one of the most sought-after by vintage watch collectors.

Over the decades, Porsche Design has continued its evolution by developing collections that preserve the original spirit of sobriety and performance. The newer models, with titanium cases, minimalist dials and chronometer-certified movements, continue the philosophy of a clean design serving functionality. GMT versions, modernized chronographs and integrated complications meet the needs of technical watch enthusiasts while cultivating a timeless style.

While most models target a masculine clientele, some more compact variants also appeal to a female audience, attached to discreet elegance and the ergonomics of Porsche Design creations. These watches retain the sharp lines and mechanical precision that define the brand’s signature.

Offering enthusiasts the opportunity to acquire emblematic pieces of contemporary horological history. With their bold style and unique heritage, these watches perfectly embody the alliance between Swiss technology and exceptional automotive design.
