Expressive Belgian Madonna sculpture from the interwar period, signed G. Marton and marked “Made in Belgium”. Mary carries the Christ Child in her arms, who holds the imperial apple as a symbol of dominion over the world. The stylized design, gentle facial expression, and flowing drapery suit the religious iconography of the 1930s.
