Description from the seller

GENERAL:
A fantastic and rarely preserved Jaguar XJS Convertible from 1988 is presented, equipped with the legendary 5.3-liter V12 engine. This particular model marks a historic milestone for the British brand, since 1988 was the first year Jaguar introduced a factory-made, mass-produced convertible, a development that left behind the previous special conversions commissioned to the renowned coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt, who were responsible for externally de-capping the coupé variants. The imposing HE (High Efficiency) V12 block stands out for using Fireball-designed cylinder heads by Michael May, which substantially improved fuel efficiency and thermal performance compared to the seventies versions. This unit stands out for wearing the elegant burgundy red body color with official paint code CEH. The vehicle remains in an exceptional state of preservation for its years, keeping the silentblocks and rubber components in perfect condition, completely elastic and not at all dried out, demonstrating impeccable storage and care over time.

CARROCERÍA Y PINTURA:
The bodywork of this classic shows an imposing and timeless stance, wearing the high-strength chrome front and rear bumpers of the North American market (USA anti-shock model). The whole setup is enhanced by various glossy elements, among which the chrome front grille, chrome power-adjustable mirrors, door handles in the same finish, and chromed dual exhaust tips stand out. The vehicle sits on its original aluminum alloy wheels, which are free of dents, and also includes a full-size spare wheel equipped with an aluminum rim. In the lighting department, it features integrated fog lamps and intermittent wiper function. As for exterior aesthetic imperfections, there is only a small dent or nearly imperceptible ding on the surface of the hood. The exterior fabric convertible top shows a small four-centimeter cut, which, although already repaired, remains visually present on the canvas.

MECHANICS:
This model is powered by the refined 5.3-liter V12 engine that delivers power in a linear, velvety manner to the rear wheels. On the onboard instrumentation, the fuel gauge reads inaccurately, fluctuating erratically between three-quarters and one-quarter marks despite the tank being full or empty. On the other hand, the interior air conditioning system is inoperative due to the need for a refrigerant recharge, conditioned by the fact that it originally uses the old R-12 gas from the era. It can be easily converted to R134a, which is the modern standard for many cars from 1990–2015.

INTERIOR:
The cabin is a true showcase of British luxury craftsmanship, combined with exquisite period-specific personalized details. It features an ivory leather interior that elegantly outfits both the individual seats and the door panels. The front seats are equipped with an integrated heating system, ideal for open-air driving days, while the center console houses a comfortable armrest that conceals a practical storage space. Notably, in the instrument cluster, there is an exclusive Italian adjustable steering wheel signed by E. Nardi, made of aluminum and fine wood, matching the decorative dash panel crafted in Tuya root wood in perfect condition. The cabin is completed with courtesy interior lights and courtesy mirrors with integrated illumination in the sun visors. Electric rearview mirrors.

RECOGIDA:
Pickup of this classic vehicle will have to take place in Maçanet de Cabrenys, a municipality located in the comarca of Alto Empordà in the province of Girona, within the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
