Dressing table set - Imbuia wood - Extremely rare

Exceptional and extremely rare set of a four-piece made from a very rare wood Imbuia. From the mid-20th century (circa 1950), Brazilian semi-artisanal high-end manufacture. The set consists of an imposing dressing table with a large mirror and its accompanying upholstered chair.

This lot stands out not only for the extraordinary quality of the carpentry but also for its documented historical track record.

The chair preserves, in its lower structure, the original label of the prestigious high-end decoration house "A Nova Éra — Jorge Schnaider" (Rua do Catete, Rio de Janeiro) and the original tax stamp (green seal) of the Brazilian state Consumption Tax of the era, giving this set the status of an authentic collection piece with certified provenance.

Technical Details and Materials

Era: 1950s.
Origin: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Imported to Portugal).
Wood: Solid Imbuia (Ocotea porosa), a noble exotic wood known for its beautiful patina, density, and contrasting veins in chocolate and gold tones.
Hardware: Original bronze pulls and handles, solid cast bronze, featuring a majestic and detailed lion head in a classic relief style.

Style: D. João V Revival / Queen Anne, characterized by serpentine cabriole legs, waved carved skirts, and pad feet.

Condition Report
Wood: In excellent structural condition. Exhibits only the slight, natural wear expected for its age (small surface marks from use). Wood fully healthy, solid, and without any signs of borers (caruncho).

Upholstery: The chair’s jacquard/brocade fabric is clean, taut, without tears or stains, perfectly functional and ready to use.
Mirror: The original dressing table mirror is in excellent condition, with no humidity stains or significant silvering oxidation.
Drawers: All the drawers slide smoothly and retain the original handles in excellent condition.
