Description from the seller
BLUE JAR AND POMELOS is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García.
A large blue vase with curved shapes occupies the center of the composition, accompanied by several pomegranates arranged on the table and inside a white bowl. The sculptural presence of the ceramic organizes the entire scene, while the fruits, some whole and another opened to reveal its seeds, introduce a sense of abundance, vitality, and symbolic richness.
The work stands out for its intense palette of blues, reds, oranges, yellows, and violets. The dark outlines, simplified forms, and free use of color place the painting within a sensibility close to fauvism, decorative expressionism, and the modern still life tradition. The chromatic treatment recalls the strength of Henri Matisse, especially in his interiors and still lifes on ornamental fabrics, while the roundness of the objects and the construction through large planes of color also evoke echoes of Gauguin and post-impressionist painting.
The background, covered with geometric motifs and textile-like designs, does not function as mere accompaniment but as an active part of the composition. Its shapes recall carpets, tapestries, and popular ceramics from the Mediterranean and the Middle East, giving the work an artisanal and multicultural character. The pomegranate, a recurring fruit in art history, also adds associations with fertility, prosperity, and renewal.
BLUE JAR AND POMELOS revisits the classical genre of still life from a contemporary, colorful, and ornamental perspective. It is a work of strong visual impact that celebrates ceramics, fruit, and decorative textiles, transforming an everyday table into a scene full of energy, symbolism, and resonances with the history of art.
