Description from the seller
Avanguardia Carpentry: Table '611' – Designed by Silvio Coppola for Bernini (1960s)
We present at auction an emblematic piece of 20th-century Italian design: the '611' table by Silvio Coppola for Bernini. Made in the 1960s, this model represents a pinnacle of elegance and functionality, distinguished by its most sought-after version, complete with integrated ceramic containers that transform it into a dynamic and refined piece of furniture.
Design and History: The Noble Walnut Presence
The 611 table is a perfect synthesis between Lombard cabinetmaking tradition and the geometric rigor of modernism:
The Nobility of Wood: Coppola chooses the noble walnut wood to define the project’s soul. The structure and the top highlight the natural grain of the wood, giving the piece a warm and authoritative presence that can define the architectural space without resorting to decorative excess.
The Table Centerpiece Ingeniousness: The distinctive feature of this edition is the integrated storage system in the top. The table is equipped with four ceramic containers that can be exposed to hold objects or plants, or concealed at will via coordinated walnut panels, restoring the top’s formal continuity.
Rigorous Proportions: Every detail, from the leg joints to the top thickness, responds to a design vision that unites the solidity of solid wood with the lightness of 60s lines.
Lot Conditions: Conservation Status and Authenticity
- The exemplar appears in excellent working condition, preserved with the care necessary to value a piece of high craftsmanship:
- Surfaces and Structure: The structure is solid and intact. The walnut wood has been treated with professional products that bring out its deep grain, preserving the precious original patina. Only slight, natural signs of use and aging are noted, consistent with the object’s history.
- Ceramic Accessories: The four original bowls marked Bernini are in excellent condition and integrate perfectly into the prepared compartments.
- Certificate of Authenticity: Originality is guaranteed by the mark engraved on the bottom of the ceramics.
