Description from the seller

A fine example of a 17th-century Latin spoon with the image of the Apostle John could also be Peter. The spoon has a broad, flattened shaft that tapers toward the top and a typical five-lobed bowl from that period with a maker's mark of three spoons at the top. The finial shows John or......... one of the youngest apostles, and is clearly cast so that his long beard and the Bible he holds are visible. The spoon is in very good condition and has a natural color.

English. c. 1640–45.
