Item Description
This bronze vase is the work of Neya Churoku (根箭忠録 Neya Churoku, 1897–1987), a metalwork artist active from the Taishō through the Shōwa era. Born in Osaka and trained at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, Churoku exhibited regularly at the Teiten and Shin-Bunten national exhibitions, winning the tokusen grand prize at the 15th Teiten in 1934 and later receiving mukansa (juror-exempt) status. His work is associated with the Art Deco and Modernist currents in early twentieth-century Japanese metalwork.
