DESK CLOCK JAeger-LECOULTRE 8 DAYS AND ALARM (SWITZERLAND, CIRCA 1940-1950):
We present at auction a jewel of haute horlogerie for interiors crafted by the legendary Jaeger-LeCoultre Maison. Worldwide known for milestones such as the Atmos, JLC produced in the mid-20th century some of the most elegant and precise desk clocks in the world, and this piece is a superb example of the transition between Art Deco and Mid-Century design.
The clock rests on a base of gilded brass with two side fluted columns crowned by pinnacles. The main body stands out for its green marbleized panels, creating a sophisticated hard stone effect (malachite or jade). In the center, a beautiful pearlized oval bezel frames the silver dial.
The dial features stylized Roman numerals and elegant vintage skeleton hands. Just below 12 o’clock, a curved window allows viewing and setting the alarm time. At 6 o’clock, the iconic “8” seal framed in a circle certifies that the clock is driven by a Jaeger-LeCoultre mechanical caliber with an 8-day power reserve.
Condition Report (Expert Review)
We urge bidders to examine the photographic gallery carefully. The clock is in an honest and beautiful vintage condition:
Case and Panels: The green marbleized panel is intact and free of cracks. The gilded brass shows superficial oxidation and dark patina on the edges and recesses, typical of decades of age, which lends undeniable antique character.
Dial and Hands: The dial shows a light and uniform speckling (patina of time). The original luminescent material on the hands has darkened naturally.
Back: The control panel shows circular wear around the winding keys, evidence of historical use. All its dials and crowns are preserved.
