Reference Number: 168.005
Serial Number: 24500128
Movement: Automatic, Caliber 561, 24 jewels
Dial: Silver pie-pan with applied indices and even patina
Case Size: 34mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Gold-capped stainless steel
Production Year: 1966
Condition: Good vintage condition. Movement serviced on 29 June 2026. Timegrapher: -10-12s/day with strong amplitude, performing remarkably well.
Dial and Hands
The classic silver pie-pan dial displays an attractive and even patina, with spotting developed across the entire surface reflecting its age. It features applied faceted indices, an applied Omega logo, and the signature applied star positioned above six o'clock. A stepped frame elegantly highlights the date window at three o'clock. The original dauphine hands match the dial's condition, showing light oxidation and spotting consistent with the watch's natural aging process.
Case and Crystal
The gold-capped stainless steel case retains its iconic dog-leg lug profile, demonstrating honest vintage wear with preserved geometry. Moderate scratches and handling marks are visible throughout the case and the smooth gold-tone integrated bezel. The caseback features the observatory medallion, which shows typical wear with some of the stars rubbed flat from use. A signed scalloped Omega crown is present, exhibiting moderate wear to its gold tone. The domed acrylic crystal remains generally clear, with light surface scratches visible under direct lighting.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the chronometer-certified Omega Caliber 561. The automatic movement features clean copper-colored plating and crisp engravings noting its twenty-four jewels and adjustment to five positions and temperature. The rotor and bridges appear well preserved, with no obvious signs of corrosion or moisture damage. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher records a rate of -10-12s/day with strong amplitude. The movement was serviced on 29 June 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed two-tone beads of rice bracelet. This well-worn original bracelet shows significant plating loss on the gold-tone center links, alongside moderate stretch and surface scratches. The clasp is signed with the Omega logo and marked 1502, while the inner blades are engraved PLAQUE OR L 20 MICRONS AND STAINLESS STEEL. The bracelet will accommodate a maximum wrist fit of 18.5cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 29 June 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The case shows moderate wear and scratches but retains its distinct lug shape, while the caseback medallion displays rubbing to the stars. The dial and hands present an even, attractive patina with visible spotting throughout. The original bracelet exhibits stretch and notable plating loss to the center links, reflecting its history of wear.
Dimensions
The case measures 34mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Constellation offers a highly authentic aesthetic with its beautifully aged pie-pan dial and distinct dog-leg lugs. Supported by a serviced Caliber 561 and its original beads of rice bracelet, it represents a sought-after configuration for dedicated Omega enthusiasts.
History
The Omega Constellation was introduced in 1952 to serve as the brand's flagship chronometer, representing the pinnacle of their precision watchmaking. By the 1960s, the introduction of the pie-pan dial and the distinctive dog-leg lugs created a silhouette that remains highly prized by collectors today. The Caliber 561 movement further established the line's reputation for robust, reliable chronometer performance.
