Carving, Talla Querubin - 15 cm - Wood

Beautiful Baroque round wood sculpture depicting the head of a cherub or winged baby angel, intended for wall display, dating to circa 1800. The piece stands out for its substantial three‑dimensional volume and the expressiveness of its hand‑carved features. The face retains traces of its original oil polychromy on a traditional gesso base, showing a very aesthetically pleasing natural aging in the forehead area. The wings display delicate water gilding with genuine gold leaf, worn by time, revealing the reddish lower bole. The tips and structure of the wings are intact with no wood losses. The reverse has a layer of gray paint applied during an old conservation restoration to protect the support, as well as a later circular modification to facilitate safe wall hanging. A magnificent piece of European religious imagery. Era: circa 1800. Material: carved wood, stuccoed, polychromed and gilded. Condition: Good, with natural wear and patina appropriate to its age.
