This majolica vase from the late 19th century, in full Neo-Renaissance style, features a cobalt blue bottom decorated with grottoes, grotesques, and classical motifs that echo the sixteenth-century tradition. The large handles are formed by entwined and spotted serpents that start from lion-head reliefs. The main body shows two historied scenes enclosed in medallions: on the front Venus’s dressing outdoors, and on the back two winged cherubs in flight among the clouds.
Dimensions: 81x48x40 cm
Good state of conservation, chipping at the base and defects due to the normal passage of time and use; any flaws have been shown in the photographs.
