Oskar Laske, originally trained as an architect, came to painting through Anton Hlavacek, but nevertheless defined himself as a self-taught artist. Despite his actual training as an architect, he gradually devoted himself entirely to painting in order to become one of the most significant representatives of the Vienna art scene in the first half of the 20th century.

In the present work, a stage design, he merges his architectural knowledge with his artistic passion.

The artist was a member of the Hagenbund, the Secession, and the Künstlerhaus.

Oskar Laske, ursprünglich ausgebildeter Architekt, näherte sich über Anton Hlavacek der Malerei, definierte sich aber dennoch selbst als Autodidakt. Trotz seiner eigentlichen Ausbildung als Architekt, wandte er sich mit der Zeit vollständig der Malerei zu, um zu einem der bedeutsamsten Vertreter der Wiener Kunstszene der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts zu werden.

Im vorliegenden Werk, einem Bühnenbildentwurf, vereint er sein architektonisches Wissen mit seiner künstlerischen Leidenschaft.

Der Künstler war Mitglied des Hagenbundes, der Secession sowie des Künstlerhauses.
