AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare stage design sketch. Gouache on paper. Signed bottom right.

Passepartout cutout: 17.5 x 30 cm. In the original frame: 37 x 47 cm. Museum glass.

Oskar Laske, originally trained as an architect, came to painting through Anton Hlavacek, but nevertheless defined himself as a self-taught artist. Despite his actual training as an architect, he gradually devoted himself entirely to painting in order to become one of the most significant representatives of the Vienna art scene in the first half of the 20th century.

In the present work, a stage design, he merges his architectural knowledge with his artistic passion.

The artist was a member of the Hagenbund, the Secession, and the Künstlerhaus.
