Grand Hermagis large-format photographic view camera with original accessories – France, circa 1900–1919
Beautiful and authentic large-format wooden photographic camera, bearing its original Hermagis plate – 18 Rue Rambuteau, Paris.
The set is sold with its original accessories, including:
- brass objective with its original cap labeled “Projection – Optique Supérieure”;
- two large double-plate holders;
- an additional plate-holder chassis;
- an old J. Jougla 13 × 18 box.
The J. Jougla box is a particularly interesting component of the lot. It appears never to have been opened or used. The original labels are still present and the sides are still fully sealed, which is very rare for this type of old accessory.
The camera is in very good condition.
The bellows are complete and extend and retract normally thanks to its rail and adjustment knob system that function correctly.
The adjustment knobs are present and allow the various adjustments of the apparatus.
The front cap of the objective is original. It can be removed easily and replaced normally.
The rear panel is complete, disassembles and reassembles without difficulty. The plate-holders fit in normally.
The upper chimney is removable and reinstallable with ease.
The small side door equipped with a red glass opens and closes correctly. When closed, it stays well secured. When opened, it simply shows some minor play at its hinge due to age.
The interior of the instrument is remarkably well preserved. The inner tube, the visible optical elements, and the large internal chamber are clean and in very good condition.
The wood, brass parts and metal elements display a beautiful original patina with only normal signs of use and aging, without significant restoration.
