Silver ducat, struck in 1694 in Utrecht for the province of Utrecht.
Weight: 27.61 grams
Diameter: 42 mm
Metal: silver
Mint: Utrecht
Mint master: Johan van Romondt
Mint mark: small city shield of Utrecht
Master’s mark: rose
Front: Armored and helmeted knight, standing to the right, with a sword slung over the shoulder in the right hand. In the left hand he holds the crowned provincial arms of Utrecht, surrounded by the accompanying inscription.
Reverse: Crowned Generality arms, flanked by the year 16–94 and surrounded by the usual Latin inscription.
For this type, a very beautiful and strikingly attractive specimen. The coin possesses a uniformly developed and particularly attractive patina, which nicely brings the imagery and the remaining details to their full effect. A representative Utrecht silver ducat from the late seventeenth century.
