Description from the seller

Yixing “Han Duo” (漢鐸壺) Teapot with Slip Decoration
China, 20th century

A finely potted Yixing stoneware teapot of Han Duo form (漢鐸壺), inspired by the shape of ancient Han dynasty ritual bells. The term Han Duo literally refers to the bronze clappers or bells (duo 鐸) used in antiquity, described in early Chinese texts as small ceremonial bells. This elegant and scholarly form became one of the most celebrated classical Yixing designs, admired for its balanced proportions and literati associations.

The body is decorated in white slip with the flowing cursive-script inscription:

清远
(Qing Yuan)

translated as:
“Clear and refined” or “Pure and profound.”

This classical expression evokes the calm and elevated mental state associated with tea drinking, while also alluding to the lingering, subtle fragrance of fine tea. The reverse is decorated with a bamboo grove rendered in slip, bamboo symbolising integrity, resilience, and scholarly virtue in Chinese literati culture.

The teapot consciously pays homage to earlier Yixing masterpieces associated with the famous Ming dynasty master Shi Dabin (時大彬), whose seals have been reproduced on this example:

Base seal:
時大彬製 (Shi Dabin zhi)
“Made by Shi Dabin”

Inside the lid:
大彬 (Dabin)

Dimensions:
H 7 × W 10.5 × D 7 cm
Capacity: approx. 100 ml

Condition:
Perfect condition with no damage observed.
