Description from the seller
Pair of purse/toilette mirrors in 800 silver - Guilloché workmanship - Italy, mid-20th century
Fascinating pair of vintage pocket/purse mirrors, entirely made in solid 800 silver. The objects stand out for the refined and meticulous Italian artisanal workmanship of the mid-twentieth century. The back of both pieces is decorated with a very fine engraving in guilloché technique, which recreates on the metal an elegant optical, iridescent moiré-like effect reminiscent of silk. One of the two mirrors also features a valuable asymmetric floral motif incised at the center, depicting buds and leaves. The handles are richly worked in relief with baroque-inspired volutes and acanthus leaf motifs, ensuring a solid and striking grip. The edges of the frames show geometric finishes and continuous stampings that seal the structure. The pieces are regularly punch-marked on the side profile with the silver title "800" inserted in the oval and the corresponding identifying mark of the Italian manufacturer.
