Albertus Verhoesen (1806-1881)

Albertus Verhoesen, specializing in painting landscapes with dogs, livestock and animal stables, became best known for his poultry scenes. He was a pupil of Jan van Ravenswaay and of the cattle painter P.G. van Os, lived and worked in Utrecht and Amersfoort, and from 1824 to 1826 was part of the artists’ colony in Hilversum. In these ‘Hilversum years’ Verhoesen likely studied under B.C. Koekkoek, who was also staying there at the time. In Amersfoort he worked for almost twenty years as a city draughtsman. Additionally, he was also an art dealer.
The work is on view in our gallery. Furthermore, Art Dumay operates a frame-making workshop and a restoration studio. So should you wish to use these services, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
