This type of fine tableware testifies to the European aristocracy’s fascination with the tea ceremony in the early 18th century. The presence of a mounting in precious metal underscores the great value attributed to these porcelains imported by the East India Companies.

The set includes a gadrooned teapot as well as an assortment of teacups and saucers illustrating the production of export Chinese porcelain destined for the European market at the turn of the 18th century.

Gadrooned, pear-shaped teapot with a ribbed body, fitted with an ear-shaped handle, a lid topped by a multi-lobed knob, and a straight pouring spout. Under-glaze painted in a deep blue (Kangxi blue). The lobes of the body are ornamented with scrolling flowers, peonies and blooming foliage. The spout features a reinforced engraved metal (silver or silvered alloy) fitting connected by a fine chain to the lid, a technique typical of a 18th-century European mounting designed to protect or repair a damaged end.

The lot brings together several series of cups (without handles, called tea bowls) and saucers with polylobed or circular shapes.
Decor “Chinese Ladies” with figurative scenes depicting elegant women in traditional dress in a pleasure garden, beside a pavilion and flower pottery. Landscape motifs with mountain and lake scenes bordered by geometric friezes on the rim.
Floral and compartmentalized decor with blooming flower motifs distributed in radially polylobed cartouches.

Condition: Exquisite set preserving its patrimonial character. Signs of use, chips, small nicks on some lid rims and rims, and possible old restoration on the teapot.
