Description from the seller
Romantic mahogany sewing table, with a mirror and a compartmented interior – dated 1844.
Elegant sewing table from the Romantic period, made of mahogany and datable to the first half of the 19th century.
It features a rectangular body with a lift-top lid, the interior of which includes an framed mirror.
The case has a carefully organized interior, composed of several compartments of different sizes, originally intended for organizing threads, needles, thimbles and other sewing tools.
It also includes a small compartment with a pull handle.
The structure rests on two cylindrical wood columns, ornamented with rings and ebonized elements, joined by a turned crosspiece.
The cut-out bases end in curved feet with small wheels, lending lightness and elegance to the piece.
At the lower part there is an old inscription: “Seguro na Comp. Fidelidade em 30 de Julho 1844 – Avellares”. This inscription constitutes an interesting historical and provenance element, allowing the piece to be linked to a concrete date.
Height: 79 cm. Width: 54 cm. Depth: 44 cm.
Condition: In antique condition, with signs of use and wear compatible with age. It shows scratches, stains, small finish losses, marks on the top and localized edge wear. The interior preserves the compartments, hardware and mirror.
A Romantic piece of furniture that is simultaneously functional and decorative, suitable for collection, classical interior decoration, or use as an auxiliary table, jewelry box, or vanity piece.
