Natura morta, 1966, oil on faesite, Hungary, 66 × 86 cm (86 × 66 cm in frame), original edition, signed by hand, sold by Galleria and presented with the frame.
Description from the seller
“ Still life ”
Hungarian painter of the 20th century
Oil on faesite
Signature to identify – Ferenc (?)
Title: Csendélet (Still life with flowers and fruit)
Date: 1966
Technique: oil on faesite
Dimensions: 80 × 60 cm (86 x 66 cm framed)
Signature: signed and dated “1966” in the upper right
Provenance: Képcsarnok Vállalat, Hungary, as per the original label affixed to the reverse.
A broad still life characterized by a rich arrangement of flowers and fruit on a domestic surface. Two flowering vases vertically punctuate the composition, while in the foreground apples, pears, plums and a pumpkin are arranged in a compact and balanced structure.
The painting is executed with energetic, textural brushwork, through simplified forms and robust blocks of color. The palette, dominated by greens, ochres, reds and oranges, reveals a post-impressionist and Cézannian sensibility, placeable within the figurative culture of Central-Eastern Europe in the mid-20th century.
Particularly significant is the presence on the back of the original label from Képcsarnok Vállalat, where the Hungarian title Csendélet (“Still life”) appears along with a handwritten attribution of the author, as well as inventoried and commercial references.
Condition report: work in fair condition with lacunae, signs of age, and imperfections. The frame itself is unstable with missing pieces and defects. It is recommended to reframe the work in a new frame.
Overall, conservation conditions are consistent with the period and the technique employed.
*** Work offered without reserve / to the highest bidder
With certificate of sale and legitimate provenance
The frame is considered a gift, therefore complaints about possible damage during shipping will not be considered
