Modernist ceramic lamp on a dark wooden base, model Modernista, from France, in good used condition with minor signs of age, ceramic body featuring chinoiserie motifs, 24 cm wide, 24 cm deep, 44 cm high, and in working order.
Description from the seller
It is a modernist ceramic lamp from the second half of the 20th century that naturally embraces the decorative language of chinoiserie, that Western taste for reinterpreting Oriental motifs with an elegant, colorful and slightly fantastical air. The ceramic body, with a generous and well-proportioned silhouette, is covered by a profusion of scenes and ornaments: stylized flowers, delicate figures, suggested landscapes and details that evoke antique porcelains without imitating them literally. The palette, vibrant yet balanced, adds depth and makes the piece an object enjoyed both when off and when lit.
The dark, discreet wooden base acts as the perfect counterpoint: it elevates the ceramic, frames it and gives it visual stability. That type of base is very characteristic of mid-century decorative lamps, where the aim was to combine noble materials to reinforce the presence of the object without diminishing the main body.
The ensemble conveys a blend of gentle exoticism and modern design: a lamp conceived to provide light, yes, but also to introduce an artistic accent in the interior, a small fragment of Oriental fantasy reinterpreted from the European sensibility of the 20th century.
