Three Bronze Age bronze arrowheads, each with a triangular blade and a raised midrib; two have downward barbs and one has slightly upward-sloping shoulders, with short stems and narrow tangs, measuring about 7.6–8.7 cm long and 1.8–2.4 cm wide, dating to circa 1200–600 BC, authentic in bronze, in good condition, acquired from a private collection in 2000, with provenance Ex. London Collection.
Description from the seller
A group of three Bronze Age bronze arrowheads, all featuring a triangular blade with a raised central midrib. Two arrowheads present with sharp, downward angled barbs, whilst the remaining one has slightly upward-sloping shoulders. Beneath, a short stem leads to a narrow tang. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface. Chips to the edges of the blades and barbs.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: (circa) L 7.6-8.7cm x W 1.8-2.4cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
