Description from the seller
Character dolls with bisque porcelain heads and composition bodies in sailor outfits and lace dress
The set consists of three charming antique small dolls. Two of them wear color-coordinated dark blue maritime-style sailor outfits from the turn of the century (one with a matching cap). The smaller doll in the middle wears a historic white dress with delicate lace trim. All three dolls have finely crafted faces with modeled and painted hair as well as hand-painted features.
Manufacturer
Large dolls (sailors): Bahr & Pröschild (nape stamp with the brand “Krone über Kreis mit Kreuz” and model number 11203 or “B 9/0”, see photos).
Small doll (white dress): Based on the construction and the neck stamp “910” (see photos) also of German manufacture (Gebrüder Heubach or a comparable Thuringian character doll maker).
Origin
Germany (Thuringia) – recognizable by the impressed origin designation “Germany” on the neck (image.png).
Year / Precise period
About 1910 – 1920 (late Kaiserreich / early Weimar Republic).
Style
Antique toy / character dolls of Historicism or early modernism (maritime fashion for children).
Technique & Material
White-dress doll: The head is made of fine bisque porcelain; all body parts (torso and limbs) are completely made of composition.
Sailor dolls: The heads are made of bisque porcelain, all body parts are also made of composition (painted, see detail photos).
Details & clothing: All heads are hand-painted (eyes, eyebrows, lips and hair). Original or period textiles (wool/cotton for the outfits, lace and fine linen/cotton for the dress).
Measurements
White dress doll: height about 18 cm
Sailor dolls: height about 22 cm
Condition
Overall condition for the age is described as good to satisfactory:
Heads: The bisque porcelain shows no noticeable hairline cracks or flaking in the visible area. The original painting is well preserved.
Bodies & limbs: The bodies made of composition show age-related wear, slight stains, minimal paint loss, and the typical loosening of internal elastic cords over the decades (see detail photos). The elbow joints were partially fixed historically or sit loosely in the sleeves.
Clothing: Authentically aged with a beautiful patina and light dust marks, without major damage.
Shipping note: The dolls will be packed securely for transport and shipped insured."
