Antique devotional crucifix for suspension, made in a copper alloy (probably bronze or brass), datable to the late 18th century to the first half of the 19th century, likely in the early decades of the 1800s.
The work consists of a flat cross with the corpus of Christ and the INRI cartouche made separately and subsequently assembled by repoussé, a traditional technique used in the production of devotional objects of the period.
The Christ presents a refined iconography of the living Christ, with the head turned upward and the expressive face, a feature that recalls the late Baroque tradition widespread in northern Italy and the Alpine area between the late 18th century and the early 19th century.
The entire crucifix is made of non-magnetic metal and preserves a suggestive natural patina formed over time, a sign of its authenticity and long preservation. There are no evident restorations or modern interventions.
The object comes from a Lombard family collection, where it is documented at least from the late 19th century or the early 20th century.
This is an authentic testimony of popular devotion, originally intended for suspension in a domestic setting or in a small private chapel, today of particular interest to collectors of sacred art and antique devotional objects.
