Description from the seller

Palimpsest

Charlotte Colard

Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
Original unique work

Description of the work

Palimpsest explores the notion of pictorial memory through the layering of materials, gestures, and colors.

Like an ancient manuscript rewritten over time, the surface of the canvas bears the traces of its successive transformations. The different layers of paint respond to one another, revealing fragments, tensions, and passages between disappearance and revelation.

Deep red accents emerge from the composition like an inner force, piercing the pictorial strata to reveal a new energy. Light becomes an active element: it does not hide the past, it emphasizes its imprints.

The work invites the gaze to move between the different depths of the matter, in a subtle balance between movement, spontaneity, and harmony.

About the artist

Charlotte Colard develops an intuitive abstract practice where color, material, and gesture occupy a central place.

Her creative process is part of a form of active meditation: a search for balance between the spontaneity of motion and the sensitive construction of the composition.

Moving away from figurative representation, the artist seeks to translate an inner experience through variations in textures, rhythms, and light.

Her works offer a contemplative space where each pictorial layer becomes a trace of time, emotion, and the creator's gesture.
