Description from the seller

Beautiful Mwana Pwevo mask of the Ovimbundu people living in Angola.
Ex collection of the late Walter Steinberg, London/USA.
Now in my private Dutch collection.

Pwevo, the female ancestor.
The scarification on the forehead, which symbolises a chickenfoot, is typical for the Ovimbundu of Angola.
After their migration to Zambia, in contact with the Lovale-groups, they integrate the Mukanda initiates.

Material: wood, fibres, raffia.
A fine brown patina. Filed teeth. Great hairdo.
