Description from the seller

Collection of gessoed and polychromed wood heraldic coats of arms

This refined collection of heraldic coats of arms testifies to the persistence of the symbolic language of the knightly and noble tradition, reinterpreted through the mastery of artistic craftsmanship. Made in gessoed wood, carved and polychromed, the pieces combine heraldic, allegorical and ornamental elements in a balance of forms, colors and gilding.

The symbolic figures, knightly helmets and vegetal motifs evoke an imaginary world tied to honor, virtue, prosperity and prestige, while the rich manual workmanship gives each work its own expressive identity. Through patinas, reliefs and gold finishes, these coats of arms engage in dialogue with European decorative tradition, transforming the heraldic repertoire into an elegant element of décor and representation.

1. Coat of arms with a winged female figure

Neoclassical in taste, topped by a stylized knightly helmet. The central shield houses a winged female figure, interpretable as an allegory of Victory or Fame. The gilding in amber- and copper-toned hues, combined with raised incisions, enhance the rich artisan workmanship and give the work a distinctive luminosity.

2. Coat of arms with a seated allegorical figure
Compact composition characterized by a closed helmet and an articulated geometric surround. In the center appears a seated female figure, probably an allegory of Wisdom or Justice. The brownish and greenish patinas emphasize the antique feel and the plastic depth of the ensemble.

3. Coat of arms with heraldic eagle
Dominated by a large eagle with outstretched wings, a traditional symbol of authority and prestige. The shield is set within a golden frame topped by a knight’s helmet. The contrast between the golden background and the dark relief of the eagle gives strength and solemnity to the composition.

4. Green coat of arms with a sheaf of ears of corn
The emerald-green shield hosts a sheaf of golden ears, emblem of fertility and prosperity. The helmet with vegetal crest and the foliate side motifs enrich the structure, while the contrast between green and gold enhances the decorative character of the work.

5. Red coat of arms with a sheaf of ears of corn
Similar in composition to the previous one, it features a deep red purple field that lends greater solemnity to the piece. The sheaf of golden ears stands out clearly from the background, while the helmet and the vegetal ornaments attest to the careful artisanal execution.

These five gessoed and polychromed wood coats of arms represent a refined modern interpretation of the traditional heraldic repertoire. The combination of carved reliefs, gilding and decorative patinas highlights the quality of manual craftsmanship and the ornamental function of the pieces.
