A Danish bread slicer by Raadvad, specifically the iconic model 294. This device is regarded as an icon of Scandinavian applied design.

Key information about the model:

Designer and history: This model was designed by Ove Larsen in 1939. Raadvad, founded in 1759, began producing iron guillotine slicers around 1890, and the 294 model became a standard in Danish homes in the mid-20th century.

Purpose: Originally created for slicing dense, hard Danish rye bread (rugbrød), with which traditional knives struggled.

Construction: Made of heavy cast iron with a wooden feed tray and handle. It features a steel guillotine blade and a front screw that allows adjusting the thickness of the slices.

Color version: The example shown in the photo is in the original, less common white color, characteristic of productions from the 1960s and 70s.
