Description from the seller
Broer Dobbelsteen was a versatile Brabantian artist who made his name mainly with his colorful and expressive paintings. Although he was originally trained as a designer at the academy in Eindhoven, in 1964 he changed course to devote himself entirely to the visual arts. His work, which often revolves around human figures and abstract forms, stands out for its lively use of color and a very own, recognizable handwriting. Until his death in 2019 he remained a notable figure in the Geldrop region, where he worked for years on an oeuvre that is still frequently encountered among collectors and at art auctions.
The oil paintings by Broer Dobbelsteen are known for their powerful, expressive appearance, strongly influenced by the CoBrA movement. He employed a recognizable technique in which he often worked with thick layers of paint (impasto) and a rough, spontaneous brushwork.
Provenance: Private collection, Netherlands
Signed and dated in the lower left
