Description from the seller
Ancient Baroque wall mirror in carved and gilded wood – Italy – Late 19th century (19th century)
A fascinating and authentic antique wall mirror in full Baroque/Rococo style, datable to the end of the nineteenth century and elegantly crafted by Italian cabinetmaker artisans. Unlike the more common late‑century reproductions made in plaster or stucco, this precious frame is entirely hand‑carved in solid wood. The shaped and undulating line is crowned by a sumptuous pierced crest with foliate motifs and large acanthus leaves, with fluid volutes decorating the sides and base, giving an exceptional plastically dynamic feel typical of period furnishings. The surface gilding is original, characterized by a splendid warm antique patina that reveals the typical underlying preparation and the signs of time, which attest to its absolute authenticity. The coeval central mirror is perfectly inserted into the shaped rabbet of the frame. A high‑class antique piece, ideal for collectors or to enhance refined interiors
Style: Italian Baroque / Rococo
Era: Late 19th century (circa 1880-1900)
Country of origin: Italy
Material: Entirely hand‑carved and gilded wood, glass
Conditions: Very good for its age. The wooden structure is solid and free of major structural deficiencies. The original gilding presents a magnificent antique patina with small and charming signs of time that enhance its antique character. Mirror intact
