Console table - Wood, Marble

Credenza or Portuguese sideboard from the 19th century, executed in carved wood, hollowed, painted and gilded, with a clearly Rococo-inspired character. It features a structure of curved and dynamic lines, richly decorated with carvings of vegetal motifs, scrolls, volutes, foliage, flowers and elements inspired by naturalism. The front is enriched by an expressive relief ornamental group, centered by a floral arrangement, extending laterally through gilded foliage and scrolls on a pale ivory-painted background. It rests on four tall, curved feet with an elegant silhouette, equally decorated with floral and vegetal motifs, terminating in a scroll. The feet are connected by a lower crossbar in the form of an “X”, also carved, painted and gilded, with a central decorative element in the shape of a basket or vase with flowers, reinforcing the sculptural richness and the symmetry of the composition. The top, with a cut and molded profile, is made of pink marble, with natural veining in brownish, grayish and reddish tones, following the sinewy line of the structure. The surface shows wear, stains and small marks typical of antiquity and use. A piece with strong decorative presence, characterized by the abundance of carving work, by the contrast between gilding and ivory-toned paint, and by the formal exuberance typical of the historicist taste influenced by Rococo.
