Description from the seller
TITLE: MAGNIFICENT AND MONUMENTAL VENEZIAN TRUMEAU IN BURR WALNUT – HEIGHT 260 CM
DESCRIPTION:
A masterpiece of elegance and visual impact for exclusive interiors.
Are you looking for a unique piece of furniture capable of catching the eye and dramatically transforming the atmosphere of a salon, a study, or an important library? This extraordinary double-body Trumeau (or folding display) is the perfect answer.
Made in the mid-20th century by Italian master cabinetmakers in the full Baroque-Venetian/Louis XV style, the piece bears no signatures or inscriptions, presenting itself as a work of high furniture craftsmanship. Standing at a majestic 260 cm tall, it is a monumental piece with superb dramatic impact, ideal for enriching rooms with high ceilings.
Strengths and Details of Excellence:
Splendid Burl Veneer Paneling: The entire external surface is clad in fine burl veneer (walnut/olive) laid out in geometric reserves and fishbone patterns. The spectacular natural grain creates a play of warm, lively, and luxurious shades.
Elegant, flowing Lines: The cabinet features a complex sculpted and bulged shaping visible on both the front and the sides. Nothing is squared; every line follows the sinuous elegance typical of eighteenth-century splendor.
Coordinated premium fabric: The interior of the upper lift and the bottom of the main drawers are elegantly lined with a refined light glossy damask fabric, perfect for highlighting the contents.
Three Pieces in One (Maximum Functionality):
1 The Lower Body: A spacious chest of drawers with three large drawers and magnificent bronze handles and foliate motifs.
2 The Central Display: The lower section opens to reveal a splendid internal secrétaire-like cavity, equipped with four burl-veneered document-holding drawers and open compartments, perfect as a secretaire or writing corner.
3 The Upper Display: A majestic two-door glass-front cabinet with mirrored panels.
Author's Crown: The piece is crowned at the top by a sumptuous pediment carved with volutes, centrally housing a small original shaped mirror.
Security: The doors, drawers, and display lift are equipped for lockable closure via integrated locking mechanisms.
Monumental Dimensions:
Maximum height: 260 cm
Maximum width: 130 cm
Depth (closed): 62 cm
Condition:
The furniture is in excellent overall vintage condition. Structurally sound, solid, and ready to be placed in a home. All movable elements (doors, drawers, lifting section) slide and function perfectly. Shows only very light and normal signs of time on the surface that testify to its history and the authenticity of the mid-20th century (note a slight, natural era crack in the upper paneling under the central small mirror, which does not affect aesthetics or stability in any way). Clean interior fabric, intact glass and mirrors. The rear photos demonstrate the wood’s solidity and health.
TRANSPORT NOTE: To facilitate moving, relocation, and delivery, the piece can be divided into two separate sections (the base chest and the display top detach easily).
Shipping / Collection Info:
Given the monumentality and value of the piece, collection in person in the Milan area is required, with the buyer responsible for arranging transport. The seller offers full cooperation and is available if the buyer prefers to appoint their own specialist moving company or trusted private courier.
