Description from the seller

Mercedes-Benz E420 (W210) · 1996

Engine 4.2 V8 · 279 HP · Mileage 175,457 km

The E420 version is one of the rarest and most desirable variants of the E-class in the W210 generation. Under the hood sits a V8 petrol engine with a displacement of 4.2 liters, delivering not only exceptional smoothness but also performance typical for the upper-tier Mercedes models of the 1990s.

The presented example is from 1996 and spent the majority of its life in Switzerland. It reached Poland in 2022 and has been in the hands of a single owner since then. The car is in very good visual and technical condition, ready for daily use or calm, collector’s enjoyment.

Bodywork and paint

The body presents very well, with no signs of corrosion or visible rust spots – which is rare for this generation of W210. The paint in a dark navy blue (original shade) has a deep shine and even texture. No dents or scratches are visible, and the body lines are straight and even. All chrome elements, including moldings and window frames, are complete and in good condition. The seals have preserved their elasticity; there are no signs of window fogging. The headlights and lamps are clean, without clouding. The car is equipped with original AMG Monoblock 18” wheels, which give it a sporty character.

Mechanical condition

Under the hood is an eight-cylinder M119 petrol unit with a displacement of 4,196 cm³ and 279 HP, known for its unparalleled smoothness and durability. The engine starts reliably, runs quietly and evenly, with no leaks. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, without jerks. The braking system and suspension are fully functional, providing comfort and driving stability.
The car has undergone routine service after import, including fluid and filter changes. The exhaust system has been redesigned/custom-made, giving the car a slightly more raspy, but still elegant, sound. The tires are in good condition with even tread. The car handles confidently both in city conditions and on the highway.

Interior

The interior is in very good condition. The black leather upholstery is well-kept, with no wear or cracks. The dashboard and door panels are complete and undamaged. The headliner is clean and tight. The wooden inserts have a natural sheen and show no cracks. All electrical devices – windows, mirrors, air conditioning, radio, indicators – operate correctly. The cabin presents itself with elegance and preserves the typical 1990s Mercedes comfort and build quality.

Documentation

The car is registered in Poland, with valid mandatory liability insurance and current technical inspection. The set includes two keys, registration documents, and confirmations of performed service work.
Upon buyer’s request, it is possible to arrange safe transport within the European Union – for example delivery to central France costs about €1,000–€1,200.

A well-preserved 1996 Mercedes-Benz E420 is a rare sedan that blends classic style with the power and work culture of a V8 engine. The car is ready to drive, fully mechanically sound, and represents an attractive option for both a collector and a classical car enthusiast with a star on the hood.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
