Description from the seller
Exceptional table service « George Sand » – Verrerie de Portieux for Paris Museums – 45 pieces
I am offering a magnificent complete service from the prestigious "George Sand" collection, created by Verrerie de Portieux for Paris Museums.
This model is directly inspired by a 19th-century glass service kept at the Musée de la Vie romantique in Paris and traditionally associated with George Sand, one of the greatest figures in French literature. Paris Museums' collections notably preserve amber decanters with blue handles and other pieces from this historic service.
An exceptional French manufacture
Verrerie de Portieux, founded at the end of the 17th century in the Vosges, is one of the oldest French glass and crystal manufacturers. For more than three centuries it has been renowned for its know-how in tableware and art glass.
Each piece of this collection is made using traditional glassmaking techniques:
- glass colored throughout
- elegant shapes inspired by 19th-century models
- distinctive turquoise blue foot
- decorative leg housing a white twist
- artisanal finish giving each glass a slightly unique character
A sought-after edition
This collection was specially issued for Paris Museums. The authentic pieces bear the inscription under the foot:
« Portieux for Paris Museums »
This signature is a true mark of authenticity and sets these glasses apart from newer productions or models merely inspired by the George Sand style.
A collection that is hard to find
Complete sets are now rare on the market.
Most offerings are incomplete (only a few glasses). Assembling a homogeneous set of this size generally takes many years of research.
The service offered includes:
10 aperitif glasses
12 wine glasses
12 water glasses
8 champagne coupe glasses
1 water carafe
1 fruit compote
1 wine carafe
Total: 45 pieces.
Condition
All pieces are in very good condition, with no chips or cracks
