Coin issued as Notgeld by the Prussian province of Westphalia in 1922, within the emergency coin series created to alleviate the growing cash shortage during the Weimar Republic's economic crisis. The obverse features the portrait of Franz Wilhelm von Fürstenberg, a prominent reformer, educator and statesman linked to the history of Westphalia, represented in profile with a sober and elegant modeling, surrounded by his name in Gothic characters. The reverse shows the prancing horse, Westphalia's traditional emblem, accompanied by the Notgeld legend, the province name, the face value of 100 Mark, and the emission date. The specimen retains an attractive original brown color, corresponding to the BN designation, with well-defined reliefs, homogeneous surfaces and notable mint luster, features fully in line with the MS63 BN grade awarded by NGC. This issue precedes the million-denomination coins minted during the hyperinflation of 1923 and constitutes an important numismatic testimony to the progressive economic deterioration experienced by Germany in the early years of the Weimar Republic.
