Lube Yemi Monkey Statue for Shango

This figure puzzled us for a long time!

The first (bad) idea was to link it to the Baoulé monkey spirits.
But neither the posture nor the back seemed to match.
The wood, fragile, quite soft, also did not correspond to the woods used in Côte d'Ivoire.

After research, very close figures were found, depicting a dog, published in the Yale archives.

These are altar figures of the god Shango, from the Oshogbo region in Nigeria.
Their local name is Lube Yemi.
