Description from the seller

The antique French Force balance scale (Roberval type) in black-painted cast iron, with two copper pans, was manufactured between 1880 and 1930 and can weigh up to 5 kg. On the base it reads: "Balance de menage non poinçonnée", which means that this is a household scale that has not been calibrated. The copper pans show signs of age such as cracks and dents (see photos). The scale weighs 4.7 kg (including pans). The width at the base is 37.5 cm and the depth is 11 cm. The overall width across the pans is 50 cm.
The six brass weights included come in an oak storage block and also originate from the same period (late 19th – early 20th century). They weigh respectively 500 g, 200 g, 100 g, 50 g, 20 g and 5 g.
The storage block is 21 cm wide and 7.5 cm deep and weighs 1.250 kg (including weights).
