French Cartel Wall Clock – Late 19th Century

Decorative French cartel wall clock dating from the late 19th century.

The richly ornamented case is made of gilt metal, with rococo-style scrolls, floral motifs and openwork decoration. The clock has an original enamel dial with Arabic numerals, finely shaped gilt hands and two winding holes. The convex glass door opens to the side.

The clock is fitted with a traditional French mechanical movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell. The movement is not signed, so no definite attribution to a particular maker can be made. Its construction and arrangement are, however, very similar to French movements produced during this period, including examples by Japy Frères.

The movement works properly, keeps good time and the striking mechanism functions as it should.

Condition:
Good antique condition with normal traces of age and use. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
