Writing desk - Lacquered brass, Walnut - Empire style console.

Table/console in Empire/Directory style. Italy, early 19th century. Rectangular walnut wood table, with a smooth top and chamfered edges. Front features a drawer with a functioning lock and original key with a bow, accompanied by a ring. The drawer interior is divided into four compartments by wooden partitions, a typical solution for writing or gaming tables of the period. Turned legs with a column motif, topped by gilded brass fittings in the form of a ring/necklet at the top and ending in brass sabot feet at the base — an ornamental detail consistent with Empire/Directory taste, when bronze or gilded brass elements were applied to dark wood furniture to evoke the neoclassical style. Condition: showing signs of use and age (small abrasions on the top, minor chips along the drawer edge, natural oxidation of the brass parts); sturdy construction, functioning drawer.
