Author: Joaquín Mir y Trinxet (1873-1940)
Style: Catalan Post-Impressionism with Modernist and luminist influences
Technique: Oil on panel
Circle of the painter and artistic influences: Linked to the artistic milieu of the Colla del Safrà, alongside figures such as Isidre Nonell, Ricard Canals and Ramon Pichot. The work reflects the renovative conception of landscape typical of Catalan modernism, with Post-Impressionist influences and special attention to light, color and expressive brushwork.
Author’s Biography:
Joaquín Mir y Trinxet was born in Barcelona in 1873 and died in Vilanova i la Geltrú in 1940. He was a fundamental figure of modern Catalan painting and is considered one of the leading Spanish landscape painters of post-Impressionism. He developed a very personal language, characterized by the free and intense use of color, luminosity and the emotional transformation of the landscape. His production focused especially on various locales in Catalonia and Mallorca.
Landscape depicting a view of the Castle of Blanes, whose construction appears elevated in the center of the composition and surrounded by fields, roads and abundant vegetation. The foreground is articulated by green, blueish, ochre and earthy masses, crossed by a winding path that visually leads toward the architectural complex.
The work stands out for its loose, vigorous, and impasto brushwork, by means of which the artist synthesizes forms without dwelling on meticulous representation. The contrasts between deep greens, blues and warm tones of the castle create depth and an intense luminous vibrancy. Signed in the lower right corner.
Dark wooden frame, wide and sober in character, composed of stepped moldings and a broad smooth surface slightly beveled. It presents a narrow interior molding in a grayish tone that delineates the painting. Signs of age and small wear typical of the passage of time can be observed.
Measurements:
With frame: 45.5 × 50.5 cm.
Without frame: 25 × 31 cm.
Notes: The work has not been examined outside the frame.
